MBJH students to showcase art

The annual Art Forms Showcase sponsored by the MBJH PTO and several local businesses will be held on Friday, Feb. 24 at the Fine Arts Center located on the Mountain Brook High School campus.  The public is invited to attend.  

Overall winners for the Art Forms showcase were Bill Perry (Performing Arts), Kelley Jiang (Visual Arts) and Avi Goldsmith (Literary Arts).

The evening begins with a 6 p.m. reception, followed by a DVD compilation of winning visual arts entries, and then culminates with the showcase beginning at 7 p.m. Selected students in grades 7-9 will perform and the event will be emceed by sophomore Jack Royer.

Prior to the showcase, more than 100 entries were judged by local professionals in three major categories:  Performing Arts, Visual Arts and Literary Arts.  Visual and Literary Arts entries are judged without names on the work and Performing Arts judges are confirmed to have no familiarity with competing students.  Additionally, a logo contest was held with the winning design featured on the Art Forms 2012 T shirts, showcase programs and posters.  Caroline Moore, ninth grade, won the logo contest by popular vote of the students.   Continue reading
